Zaragoza
The city of Zaragoza is not only the main city of the province of Zaragoza, but the capital city of Aragon. The city itself is a cultural and culinary centre of excellence. The main attract for us anglers though has to be Mequinza and the mighty River Ebro!
Click on a fishery in the list to go straight to that fishery. Otherwise simply use the scroll bar to navigate throughout this page. In Spain, a day ticket fishery does not necessarily cost you money. Most simply require permission from the relevant authority.

Embalse de Santa Ana
This is an excellent day ticket fishery for trout and coarse fish. There are two dams, with depths to 10 metres. Tickets can be purchased from
Bar Avenida de Tarazona
Tarazona
Species and Methods
- Trout. A bit hit and miss. Rainbows vary in size from 25cm to 35cm. A 5 kilo (11 lb) brown trout was reputedly caught here.
- Carp. Good carp fishing can be had for small to medium sized fish. Float fishing is a good bet, so too is the pole. Fish corn, bread or beans as bait.
- Crucian Carp. These can be quite hard to locate, but if you persevere they can be found. Fish typical Crucian tactics for these shy biting fish, with corn or pellets as bait.
- Perch. A good head of perch can be found here. Spinning works quite well. Otherwise fish lobworms or lobworm tails.

Quinto - Rio Ebro
This is a good free fishery on the Rio Ebro. The stretch covers the river from it’s source to Quinto.
Species and Methods
This has some of the best and varied fishing in Spain. I will not list each species in detail with baits etc. Simply try it out. Carp, wels of all sizes, pike, bass and bleak are the target species here. The area is spectacular, as is most of the Rio Ebro. There are also lots of very good guides available to put you on the fish. The key here is baiting well with lots of particles and boilies. If fishing for predators then lure fishing is very popular. As for the catfish, then……just enjoy! |

Embalse de Mequinenza
This is one of the best free fisheries in Spain! The River Ebro at its best. There are three zones in all.
Zone 1: Between Escatrón and Caspe. There is very good access here to allow fishing from the bank.
Zone 2: Runs from Caspe for 13kms along the N-211. Bank side access is a little more difficult, with boats starting to be required.
Zone 3: From the end of zone 2 until you reach the dam at Mequinenza. A boat is required along this stretch.
Species and Methods
This has some of the best and varied fishing in Spain. I will not list each species in detail with baits etc. Simply try it out. Embalse de la Tranquera
Very good free fishing near the town of Nuevalos. There is a large population of signal crayfish here, undoubtedly feeding the fish!
Species and Methods
- Carp. Medium sized carp to 5 kilos (11lbs) are quite common. Fish Boilies for best results, plus they help deter the crayfish.
- Barbel. Fish as you would for the carp. Halibut pellets are a firm favourite, fished over a bed of mini pellets.
- Bass. A good head of fish to 1 kilo (2.2lbs) are present. American style spinnerbaits and plastic lures are very effective. Real worms, bumped along the bottom. will also produce.
- Zander. Fish to 2 kilos (4.4 lbs) are present. Small, free lined bleak deadbaits work well. Fish at dusk for the best results.

Galacho de Jusibol - Rio Ebro
This is an excellent predator water. Free fishing is available for a good head of small to medium sized pike and zander.
Species and Methods
- Pike. The locals seem to fish exclusively with artificials, with plugs, large spoons and crankbaits top of the list. Sea deadbaits work very well also, popped up a few cms off the bottom. Fish to 10 kilos (22lbs) are present.
- Zander. Lots and lots of fish to 4 kilos (8.8 lbs) are present. Small, free lined deadbaits are a good bet for the bigger fish. The smaller fish fall readily to spinners and spoons.

Rueda de Jalon - Rio Jalon
Free fishing is available on this shallow, calm water. The area is very pretty. A nice place to fish! This is a catch and release fishery.
Species and Methods
- Carp. Mainly small carp, up to 1 kilo (2.2lbs). Floatfishing with corn and maggots works quite well. Worms are a good backup.
- Barbel. Fish maggots or corn on a light feeder rig for plenty of fish. They go to about 2 kilos (4.4 lbs). Use a fishmeal based groundbait, laced with pellets and hemp.
- Bleak. This water is stuffed with bleak. Maggots, pieces or worm or small pieces of bread will all catch.
- Eels. Eels are probably the key species here. There is a big head of predatory fish. Small bleak deadbaits are best. Use a wire trace, and fish towards snags and other eel holding areas.

Embalse de las Torcas
Free fishing is available on this pretty fishery. Lots of pine forest in the area. Primarily a stony bank, with some sandy sections.
Species and Methods
- Carp. A huge fish of 20 kilos (44 lbs) was reported in 2002. However, most fish hare a lot smaller. Fish to 10 (22lbs) kilos are on the card though. Crab and mussel boilies are a very good bait Fish these on a stringer for some good fish.
- Barbel. No where near as prolific as the carp. Fish to 2 kilos (4.4 lbs) are possible. Use pellets, luncheon meat or corn on a simple running ledger over a bed of hemp.
- Bass. This is a very good bass fishery. Fish to 2 kilos (4.4 lbs) are possible. The bigger fish fall to slowly worked artificial worms and rubber lures. Vibrating spoons also work quite well, as do small rapala patterns.
- Pike. The pike here are small, with the best fish around 2 kilos ( 4.4lbs). Not quite sure why, but probably because they are killed and eaten before they can grow big. Spinning is the method of choice.

Embalse de San Bartolome
Free fishing is available on this very scenic water. There is easy access. This is a good place to bring the family on a nice day!
Species and Methods
- Carp. Lots of carp are present. Maggots fished on a waggler rig will produce. Spray lots of maggots to get the fish competing. Large bags of fish to 1 kilo (2.2lbs) are on the cards without too much effort.
- Perch. Fish near snags and rocks for lots of small fish. Worm or maggot will produce. Feed chopped worm over the top.
- Pike. They are distributed quite evenly throughout. Wobbled bleak baits or silver tobys will work. There is a lot of weeds and snags, so expect some tackle looses. The are quite small though, going to about 2 kilos (4.4 lbs).
- Bass. Fish worm baits, bumped near likely lies, or small mepps lures such as a ‘voblex’ for plenty of fish, especially during the autumn months.
- Bleak. Easily caught on float fished maggot.
