Valencia
Valencia is a thriving and vibrant part of Spain – with beaches, nightlife and culture at its heart. It is home to paella, Spain’s national dish and home to El Cid, Spain’s national here who fought the Moors. On a modern note, it is also becoming a leading economic and financial centre in modern Spain.
Click on a fishery in the list to go straight to that fishery. Otherwise simply use the scroll bar to navigate throughout this page. In Spain, a day ticket fishery does not necessarily cost you money. Most simply require permission from the relevant authority.

Alboraya
Free fishing is available on this tidal stretch of river near Alboraya. This section of river is not very clean, but large numbers of mullet are present. Fishing is free. Fish at high water for best results from the mullet. A rising tide is good for the eels.
The area near the Alcampo Supermarket is probably the best area, and the easiest to fish.
Species and Methods
- Mullet.
Float fished breadflake is the best method to catch these mullet. Use crumb or mashed bread as an attractor to keep them interested.
- Barbel.
Although present, carp are not the primary species here. They can be caught using simple running ledger tactics, with corn or meat as bait.
- Eels.
Standard ledgering is sufficient using worms or small dead fish as bait. Paternosterd ragworm or peeler crab also works very well.
- Barbel.
Like the carp, barbel can be hard to locate. They tend to get caught by carp anglers fishing on the bottom. Try pellets on a method feeder.

- Zander.
Zander have been recorded here to 7 kilos (15,4 lbs). You MUST fish on an overcast day to have an real success with this species. Dawn and dusk are also good. Free lined fresh water fish deadbaits score best, but small spoons and jigs also produce.
- Bass.
Bass to 2 kilos (4.4 lbs) are present, but the majority of fish are less than 1 kilo (2.2lbs). Spinnerbaits and small toby style lures work well.
- Pumpkinseed & madrilla.
A large population of these two species exist – primarily as food for the zander, pike and bass! They can be good sport of the whip or pole. Use a light rig to a single maggot for plenty of action.

- Bleak.
These little fish exist in their thousands on this fishery. Try pinkie or maggot on a light whip or pole rig for best results. Use a light cloud bait and free offerings to keep the fish interested.

Embalse de Arenos
A small, cloudy water with free fishing for pike, bass, carp and barbel.
Species and Methods
- Bass.
Plenty of fish can be taken from the dam on small artificals such as spinner baits and spoons. Fish light for best results.
- Pike.
Deadbaits are very effective on this water – either float fished or ledgered. If ledgering, use a piece of balsa to pop the bait off the bottom by about 15 cms (6 inches). Dead frogs, fished sink and draw are also extremely effective during spring.
- Barbel.
Try for the barbel during the winter or spring using mussel, squid or crab flavoured paste and boilies. Fish these over a large bed of hemp and broken boilies. A small method feeder works very well.
- Carp.
Carp will come to the same method and baits as for the barbel. Floating dog biscuits also work very well when a breeze blows along the dam wall.

Embalse el Buseo
A nice water with easy access. Free fishing for bass, carp and pumpkinseed. Evening times are best on this water, especially in spring and autumn.
Species and Methods

Embalse de Confrentes
A nice water with easy access. Free fishing for bass, carp and pumpkinseed. If you decide to try for the bass with a live frog make sure to use a short wire trace. The pike really like these also!
Species and Methods
- Bass.
Rapalas and spoons are easily the best artificals to use. Red or orange coloured lures work really well. Another good option is to free line a live frog near underwater snags. Alternatively fish a piece of pork rind cut to look like a pair of frog’s legs. Fish this sink and draw style.
- Carp.
Pole fished pellet and corn works quite well. Fish this with a brown crumb groundbait for some excellent sport. The fish tend to be small, but large bags can be quickly taken.

- Pike.
Pike to 15 kilos (33 lbs) have been recorded from this reservoir. All methods will produce, but large spoons and plugs have proved the best in the past. This is probably more due to their popularity rather than their effectiveness.

Large bags of carp can be had on this fishery. Free fishing is also available for bleak and barbel. Access is not easy. The best area is by the old campsite, about 1 km from the dam wall.
Species and Methods

- Barbel.
As with the carp, normal methods work here, with ledgered corn scoring best. Try fishing over a bed of hemp or particles for better sport.

Embalse de Benegever
Embalse de Benegever is a relatively young fishery. The embalse is deep and clear, with fishing for pike, carp, bass and rainbow trout. Just prior to Roqueria the N330 joins the N322. Follow the signs for A3-E901 and/or Utiel. In 13kms exit at junction 275 for Utiel town centre. Leave the town on the CV390, signposted Benegeber and/or Embalse de Benegever for approximately 35 km. Now follow the signs for the Tourist Leisure Centre for Sailing and Canoeing.
Species and Methods
- Carp.
Very large bags of small carp can be caught here. Fish the pole or Bolognese syyle using small cubes of luncheon meat, pellets or corn as bait. Lay the bait just on the bottom, over a bed of particles. The water is quite clear, so try a black groundbait with lots of particles if you want to use groundbait.
- Pike.
Fish to 16 kilos (35 lbs) have been recorded. Most fish fall to spoons, spinner and plugs. Patterns like the Big-S are very good. If you can fish from a boat then crank baits and jerk baits can be deadly.
- Bass.
Small mepps style spinners, devon minnows and small tobys all work here. The fish tend to be small, but your tackle must be able to handle a pike should one come along.
- Rainbow Trout.
There is only a small head of rainbow trout in the fishery. These are best targeted on fly tackle from either the dam wall or from a boat. A floating or intermediate line with a pheasant tail nymph or fritz style fly pattern will work. Buzzers can also be effective.

Presa de Tous
This huge water is home to lots of species including pike, black bass, barbel, carp, tench, bleak, pumpkinseed and zander. The fishing is free but access is very difficult. Target these with small artificials. Spoons and spinner baits work well, but you will probably need to get through quite a few pike before you connect with a zander.
- Tench.
These are few and far between. You might have a fish or two when fishing for carp or barbel. Fish on the bottom over groundbait as you would for the barbel.
- Bleak and Pumpkinseed.
These make good bait for the bass, pike and zander. Lots of these can easily be caught in a very short time. Fish maggots or pieces of worm on a light float outfit.
