Camarasa - Rio Segre

This nice, clean fishery has free fishing for trout, zander and carp. This is a little fished water.

Species and Methods

• Trout. Spin fishing with rapalas, tobys and small spoons tend to score. Only small fish present. Expect 2 to 3 fish in a session.
• Zander. Quite a few zander here, but the average size is small. Free line small, dead coarse fish such as roach. Fish towards dusk for best results.
• Carp. Plenty of small fish to 1 kilo (2.2lbs) present. Float fished corn, maggot or bread works well.

Coto de Alfarras - Río Noguera Ribagorzana

This is an excellent fly fishing water for trout, with crystal clear waters and a channel between 8 and 12 metres wide and depths to 1.5 metres. Apart from trout, barbel and pike are also present. Fishing is not permitted on Fridays.

Species and Methods

• Trout. The trout fishing is excellent on this river. Spinning will produce, but most anglers fish the fly. Try a dark numph with a gold head. Otherwise any ‘triceptero’ pattern will score. It is not unheard of to have 20 fish in a day!
• Pike. Not easy to catch, but fish to 7 kg (15.4 lbs) are present. Be adventurous  and fish a large streamer type fly to a 6 inch wire trace for some excellent fun!
• Barbel. Not that common, but will readily take a nymph when fishing for trout. Good sport on light tackle.

Coto de Barruera - Río Noguera de Tort and Embalse Barruera

• Trout. This fishery gets lots of angling pressure, however, good fishing can still be had. Free lined worm is the preferred method. Fly fishing also works, with ‘tricoptero’ patterns working best.

Embalse de Canelles

• Barbel. Feeder fished maggot or caster over hemp will work a treat. Larger baits such as meat and corn can sometimes select the bigger fish.

Embalse de Oliana

Day ticket fishing for zander and carp on this dammed stretch of the Rio Segre. 5000 permits per season are issued. Fish near the dam wall for the best zander fishing.

Species and Methods

• Zander. Lots of fish to 5.5 kgs (12.1 lbs) present but most fish average 1.5 kg to 2 kg (3.3 lbs to 4.4lbs). These can be caught spinning or using either sardine or fresh water dead baits.
• Carp. Pleant of fish to 4 kilos (8.8 lbs) present. Fish maize or worm for best results.

Coto de Vallferrera - Rio Noguera Vallferrera

Day ticket fishing for trout. A 1.8km stretch of the Rio Noguera near Alins is available. This is a catch and release fishery. Fishing is not permitted on Tuesdays.

• Trout. Good size trout can be taken to all methods. 4cm rapala lures are a good choice. If you prefer to bait fish, try grasshoppers under a trotting rig or salmon eggs/salmon egg paste on a light ledger.

Coto de L'illa - Río Noguera Pallaresa and Embalse Torrassa

• Trout. Very high population of fish along this stretch of river. However, they are not too easy to catch, and need some good presentation for success. Small wet flies or nymphs score.

Species and Methods

• Carp. Big bags of small fish are common place. Fish pellets or corn on the pole over a hemp based groundbait. Worm is another excellent bait.
• Wels. Fish to 20 kgs ( 44 lbs) can be taken using standard catfish tactics. Large fishmeal or crab flavoured boiles over a large bed of free offerings is worth a try. So too does float fished small carp. Dusk is best.
• Zander. Fish to 8kgs (17.6 lbs). Most anglers use artificals for these fish, although fresh water deadbaits are probably the best way to target the larger specimens.

Good coarse and game fishing is available on this embalse. There is an 8 fish limit for trout. Up to 40 permits are available.

Species and Methods

• Bass. Spin fish with small spoons, tobys and mepps style spinners for these fish. Lots of fish can be found near the dam.
• Pike and Zander. The zander are much more dominant than the pike. Fish for both using bleak dead baits, either hard on the bottom or just tripping bottom. Pike to 8 kgs ( 17.6 lbs) have been reported.
• Trout. Not many trout present, and those that are caught generally come to carp or bass anglers fishing with worms or maggots.
• Carp. Maggots, maggots and more maggots! The carp love them and can be taken up to 4kgs (8.8 lbs). Fish up in the water, using the ‘spraying’ technique to get the fish competing. Great fun!

Embalse de Santa Anna

Enjoyable fishing for trout and coarse fish can be had on this very pretty embalse. There is a 5 fish limit for trout, with a size limit of 25cms. Spinning is the prevalent method for most species. However, always use a wire trace even if just targeting bass or trout due to the large pike population.

Species and Methods

• Trout. Not many fish present – at least compared to the bass and pike population. Fish small artificials or worms.
• Bass. The bass respond well to American bait casting tactics. Fish small, plastic worms or ‘frog like’ lures for lots of fish to 2.7 kgs (5.9 lbs)
• Pike and Zander. Bis ‘S’ type plugs are excellent for both pike and zander. Other favourite patterns include the famous ‘crazy critter’ pattern.  Most fish tend to be small however, with the average pike and zander around 1kg (2.2 lbs)
• Barbel. Some good bags can be taken to swim feeder tactics with corn, maggot or paste as bait. Feed a hemp based groundbait with lots of free offerings mixed in. Mini boilies also work.

Embalse Llosa del Cavall

Good day ticket fishing for trout, along this 4.1 km stretch. There is a good barbel population here also, and they sometimes take a spinner. So don’t be surprised!
