Cuenca provinceis ome of the most historic and beautiful areas in all of Spain.The province boasts Iron Age burial grounds and Roman settlements. The city of Cuenca itself sits high on a hill, nestled between the Rio Jucar and Rio Huecar.

Canajos del Cabriel
Easy access to good free fishing for brown trout is avilable on this stretch of the Rio Cabriel. The fishery runs for 5.5 kms upstream from the Presa de Cristinas. Depths are between one and two metres. The surrounding are is absolutely beautiful. This is a catch and release fishery, and is fly only.

Tramo de Salvacanete
Free fishing for trout is available along this 3.5km stretch of the Rio Cabriel. The fishery stretches between the Salvacanete-El Canigral motorway bridee and the Salvacante-Teruel motorway bridge. This is a catch and release fishery.

Coto de Villalba - Rio Jucar
A day ticket stretch of the productive Rio Jucar running between the brdge in Villalba downstream to the confluence with the Hocecilla stream. The season runs from the 1st April through to the 31st August. Fishing is only permitted on festive days, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. This is a catch and release, fly only water.
Species and Methods
- Trout. This fishery has seen better days, but some nic fish are still present. Evening fishing in June and July is excellent. Nymph patterns, as well as emerger patters, work well. Barbel are also present, so be prepared to catch one or two of these.

Coto de Puente Romano - Rio Jucar
A 1.5 km day ticket stretch of the Rio Jucar running from below the power station to the Roman Bridge (Mariana). Fishing is all year round, but only on festive holidays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Fly only, on the catch and release fishery.
Species and Methods
- Trout. Most fish are caught in the upper reaches of this fishery. There is alot of other water activity at times in the lower reaches with swimmers and canoes. Most fish are small, but a 2 kg rainbow has been reported.

Coto de El Chantre - Rio Jucar
A 1.2 km day ticket stretch of the Rio Jucar running upstream from Cuenca. Fishing is all year round, but only on festive holidays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Fly only, on the catch and release fishery.
Species and Methods
- Trout. Really good bags of trout can be taken here. Large bags of fish can fall to the dry fly when conditions are right. Fish to 3 kilos have been caught, but the average is much smaller.

Coto de Priego - Rio Escabas
A 4 km day ticket stretch of the Rio Escabas running between the bridge at Priego to the dam at Priego. The season runs from the 2nd April until the 27 June. Fishing is allowed on festive holidays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Artifical baits or dead baits are allowed. There is a 4 fish limit, with a 24 cm size limit.
Species and Methods
- Trout. Most methods will work. Samll spoons and mepps style spinners, as well as minnow style lures work well. A small, dead fish in the 3 cm bracket wobbled on a small single treble hook will bring larger fish.
