Castellon
Castellon is located in the north of Communidad Valenciana and is one of the most mountainous provinces in Spain. It is less on the tourist map than neighbouring Valencia. It is famous for celebrating it’s fine history with fiestas and annual events throughout the year. And the trout fishing is not bad either!
Click on a fishery in the list to go straight to that fishery. Otherwise simply use the scroll bar to navigate throughout this page. In Spain, a day ticket fishery does not necessarily cost you money. Most simply require permission from the relevant authority.

Nymph fishing using an intermediate to sinking line works a treat here. Fish a leaded nymph to get the bait down in the fast current. Fish to 50 cms (19.6 inches) are possible.
- Carp & Barbel.
While the rainbow trout are the primary quarry for fly fishermen, the sport offered by carp and barbel can be excellent! Both species can be caught using the same techniques as for the rainbow trout. Bloodworm and caddis imitations also work quite well for the carp.

Try a crane fly pattern for these fish. Try a relatively fast retrieve. Large orange lures also work well, although I think the fish take these out of anger rather than hunger! Patterns representing beetles and grasshoppers also score.

Dry fly fishing can be a bit hit and miss on this fishery, but the fish respond very well to up stream nymphing. Try an very mobile approach, working your way methodically upstream casting to likely looking lies and snags. Small nymphs in the 16 to 18 range are effective.

Unfortunately the fishing is a bit hit and miss due to lots of angling pressure. If you can find some fish then fish a small spoon on very light tackle for good sport. Fish this upstream and retrieve it quickly.
